Autocad Drawing Wont Zoom Extents Invisible Objects

Default ZOOM extents to visible objects only

I recently upgraded to AutoCAD 2014 from 2006. Whenever I use ZOOM Extents it zooms extents to all objects, visible and not visible; even on layers that are frozen or turned off.

Is there a way to have it ZOOM Extents to just the visible objects?

Maybe I'm not recalling it correctly but it seems I was able to do this in 2006.

I discovered a much easier way to accomplish isolating an object in AutoCAD 2014. Just use the isolate command; no need to fool with turn layers off or freezing them. then Zoom extents does extend to just the visible objects.

I use the Zoom, Objects a lot, just select what you want to see all of and hit enter.

Are you sure that it is Zooming to Frozen items and not just Off items?

It will consider "Off" items to be present when Zooming to Extents (Off items can also be selected and modified/deleted), but it should ignore Frozen items.

Tom Beauford... Good hit on Zoom Objects. I've been pushing that one on my students for years.

bcgatti... A good hit for you too with "Off" layers vs. "Frozen" layers. I also tell my students to use Freeze instead of Off as it prevents so many problems in so many ways.

Now if someone can let me know if they too are getting the zoom all acting the same as zoom extents in 2014? My drawing limits seem to be ignored with zoom all unless I have no objects drawn or thawed on screen. Something new for 2014? I can't recall if it happened in 2013 but I think so as it's troubled me for awhile.

    Thanks

From AutoCAD help same in 2014 as in r12 (still have the reference manual on the shelf) Zoom All
Zooms to display all visible objects and visual aids.
Adjusts the magnification of the drawing area to accommodate the extents of all visible objects in the drawing, or visual aids such as the grid limits (the LIMITS command), whichever is larger.

Should also note for a block that is not frozen, but has objects on layers that are all the objects in that block will be used with zoom extents since they are referenced. I've received drawings from others who use title blocks with two points on a frozen layer in opposite corners of the plot area so they can use zoom extents for all their plotting. If zoom extents is zooming further out than you expect try freezing all the blocks.
